At 21 years old, Houston-based filmmaker adairyfool is starting to see years of experimenting turn into something real. One of his proudest moments came this past April when he shot his first short film with what he describes as a proper cast and crew. The project is expected to release soon, and for him, it feels like a major step forward.

Film has been part of adairyfool’s life for as long as he can remember. His parents took him to the movies often as a kid, and he spent years making trailers on iMovie and going through what he calls a “YouTuber phase,” which ended up teaching him a lot about editing. It wasn’t until taking a video production class in high school that everything fully clicked. That was the moment he realized filmmaking was what he wanted to pursue, drawing inspiration from names like Tyler, The Creator, Cole Bennett, Matt Johnson, Anthony Bourdain, Kanye West, and Scott Pilgrim vs. the World.

As he continues to grow, one of the biggest things adairyfool is learning is the importance of discipline. Motivation can help start a project, but it can only carry you so far. For him, the real challenge is continuing to work even when the excitement wears off or progress feels slow. He has learned that discipline is less about being perfect and more about consistently showing up for the craft, even on the days when it feels like nothing is changing.
