While I appreciated the article and thought it was very well-written, I also wanted to address one particular characterization of ForTheYouth’s practices as not meeting the Reader’s ethical standards. I believe characterizing ForTheYouth’s practices as “not passing ethical muster at the Reader” without additional context creates an unfair impression of the work we do. I was honestly caught off guard.
It didn't sit right with me, especially considering how much time, energy, and effort I've invested into building ForTheYouth and creating opportunities for emerging artists. Much of this work has been done independently, often without financial compensation, simply because I believe in the artists and what we're building.
We’re still a growing platform, and I welcome constructive criticism and conversations about how independent media organizations can continue improving their practices.
